Shirley Babcock was born in British
Columbia. She lived throughout BC from Vancouver Island, Lower
Mainland, Cariboo, Okanagan, Central BC and Northern BC. She attended
approximately a dozen different schools, then attended College earning
her diploma in "Computer Information Systems" Since then she worked for
Government, Educational, Corporate, Private and Non-profit Organizations along with
owning her own business. |
| Shirley became interested in Art after
researching the history and culture of her ancestors through books,
museums, websites and relatives. She has memories of visiting her
grandparents, aunt and uncle taking a little ferry to Quadra Island.
They would go salal and berry picking. Walk the beaches collecting
oysters and clams. They would smoke salmon and put them into jars or
dry them out. Also making whooshum berry home made ice-cream and (ughh)
taking cod liver oil daily. |
| Although
Shirley created her own style using variations, she uses the basic forms passed down through
generations of her ancestors of the Mid Coast Art Style. |
